Every home needs a bit of green in each season. These hues remind us of life (it’s why plants are so refreshing in any space), and this has been such a life-giving, mercy-filled season for us.

As most of you know, 5 1/2 weeks ago we brought home our precious new baby boy, Ben. And while I couldn’t wait for his birth, I recognized that the postpartum days can been challenging in so many ways. But thanks be to God, this has been the most “mercy-filled,” sweetest 4th trimester that I’ve ever experienced. When I look at all this painting’s reeds of green and the cool blue in the water’s reflection, for me they represent the mercy of people who have brought us meals for over a month! I haven’t needed to cook in over five weeks, because of our family and community. They represent gifts of kind words and baby gifts from near and far. They remind me of the gorgeous weather, a cozy home, a church we love, a neighborhood that loves us so well, a baby that sleeps for long stretches at night, and a husband that makes sure I have time to paint a bit each day, because he knows how much I love to do so!

I could go on and on, but you see it all feels like streams of mercy. And that’s what I pondered and celebrated while I painted this piece. My hope is that these green marsh grasses will remind you of the countless ways you’ve experienced mercy in your life, as well.
